Oromia Region’s ex-president Alemayehu dies

After days of care in Room 10 of the Bangkok Hospital in Thailand, Oromia region’s president and former chairman of OPDO, Alemayehu Atomssa passed away yesterday March 5, 2014. He was 47. For more than two weeks he has been in Bangkok, Thailand to get medical help for his illness.

Alemayehu was born in the Eastern Wollega’s Bilo Boshe woreda in 1961 E.C. Statements from the OPDO office said that Alemayehu has struggled for the last 24 years for the country’s peace and democracy.

After joining the struggle to topple the Derge regime in 1981 E.C, between 1988E.C and 1994 E.C he served as head of OPDO’s central office and the political affairs. Starting from 2002 E.C, Alemayehu has served as chairman of OPDO and beginning from 2003 E.C till he got ill he has been president of the Oromia region.
